ARCHAIC, noun. (archaeology) (US) (usually capitalized) A general term for the prehistoric period intermediate between the earliest period (‘[1]’, ‘Paleo-American’, ‘American‐paleolithic’, &c.) of human presence in the Western Hemisphere, and the most recent prehistoric period (‘Woodland’, etc.).
