DROWNING, noun. An instance of a person or animal drowning.
DROWNING CHAIN, noun. A series of conditions that can lead to a person being drowned: lack of education (about water safety or local conditions), lack of safety advice, lack of protection (such as a flotation device), lack of supervision, and inability to cope (e.g. a weak swimmer in strong currents).
