GASOGENE, noun. A type of Victorian seltzer-bottle, which consisted of two mesh-encased glass globes arranged so that a reaction between tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate produced carbon dioxide gas which carbonated the enclosed beverage and expelled it through a siphon valve.
