AXON, noun. (cytology) A nerve fibre which is a long slender projection of a nerve cell, and which conducts nerve impulses away from the body of the cell to a synapse.
AXON HILLOCK, noun. (biology) A specialized part of the soma of a neuron that connects to the axon. It is the last site in the soma where membrane potentials propagated from synaptic inputs are summated before being transmitted to the axon.
